Coons vs O’Donnell. Are You Kidding Me?

For all the hand wringing by the Republican establishment over Christine O’Donnell’s fitness for office two points must be made.  One, who is calling the kettle black?  Two, has anyone bothered to look at who she is running against?

In the desperate attempt to throw anything and everything they can find at Christine O’Donnell to try to derail her roaring comeback, her critics have gone all the way back to probe who her friends were in high school.  High school. If that is a criteria for being unfit for government office, how about these gems:

  • President Barack Obama admitted using marijuana and cocaine in high school, but he is fit to be the chief law enforcement officer of the United States
  • Vice President Joe Biden committed plagiarism and had to drop out of the 1988 Presidential race, but he is fit to be the “experienced statesman” to balance the Obama-Biden team
  • President Bill Clinton lied under oath to a federal judge to prevent a woman with a legitimate case of sexual harassment from having her day in court.
  • Senator Ted Kennedy left a woman in a submerged car to die rather than doing everything possible to help save her life and his Democratic colleagues called him the “Lion of the Senate”
  • Timothy Geithner oversees the IRS, but didn’t pay his own taxes
  • Charlie Rangel is under investigation for numerous ethics violations including not paying his taxes despite being the former chairman of the Congressional committee that writes the tax laws.
  • Hillary Clinton, not as a high school student but as First Lady, held a séance so she could talk to Eleanor Roosevelt.

Is that enough or should I continue?  And these people and their supporters say, Christine O’Donnell is not fit for office?  Maybe she should rob a bank so that her resume would be more in line with these icons of the Democrat firmament.

What about Chris Coons?  In the midst of out of control spending and a dismal recovery burdened with the uncertainty of all that the Obama administration wants to pile on, this is from Coons’ own website:

  • On the economy – “Chris Coons wants to focus on the millions of Americans who have suffered from the crisis.”  Great. More government programs.  Let’s not try to get government out of the way and let the economy create jobs and come roaring back, let’s make government bigger.
  • On education – “performance in the classroom depends on more than teachers and curriculum. Housing, health care, crime and poverty all have a direct impact on a child’s development and their ability to learn.”  So if you think education is expensive now, wait until Mr. Coons starts trying to ramp up all these ancillary programs.  How about competence and getting rid of teachers who can’t teach?
  • On energy – “He also is calling for a nationwide cap and trade program that will help establish a price on carbon.” Jacking up the price of energy is sure to boost the economy.
  • On financial reform – no mention whatsoever about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, just applause for the Dodd-Frank act.
  • On health care – supports ObamaCare
  • Offshore oil drilling – Coons is opposed.  He favors offshore wind farms and also has this gem on his web site, “Our state’s success in bringing Fisker Automotive to build innovative, sporty electric cars at the former GM Boxwood facility is a testament to the commitment of the federal, state, and county governments to alternative energy and building a green manufacturing economy in Delaware.” While it is commendable that Coons brought this company to Delaware, does he know that the starting price for these cars is north of $80,000.  Is he so clueless to believe that this is going to make us energy independent?  If he does, he better call Mr. Obama and tell him to lay off the “tax the rich” mantra, because it is only the rich who could possibly afford to buy these cars.

We’ll leave aside that as a college student he authored a paper titled: “Chris Coons: The Making of a Bearded Marxist.”  His current views are consistent with bigger government, more spending, less liberty.

So on the one hand we have Christine O’Donnell, who believes in the free market; that jobs are actually created by private industry; that the crushing debt burden that Obama and Coons want not only to continue but to accelerate; that taxes should be lower; and that government should be accountable.  All the other crap that the progressives are throwing at her will have no bearing on these positions that will get our country out of the mess we are in.  On the other hand you have Chris Coons who wants to double down on everything that Obama has done and make the debt even worse.

There couldn’t be a clearer choice.  Ignore the attacks from the left.  Do you like having your government crammed down your throat or do you want your government accountable to you?  Harry Reid’s “pet”, Chris Coons, wants you to open wide and say, “ahhh”. Christine O’Donnell thinks you’ve had enough.  What do you think?

Now go through and name all of the disqualifications for past and current Republicans in office. Realllllly long list, eh?

    • http://libertyslifeline.com Bill_OConnel

Nice try, Blake, but you failed to mention any facts or any matchups. Why are you asking me to come up with the list? The point of the post was O'Donnell vs. Coons. If you have a match you'd like to analyze, be my guest. Perhaps Harry Reid vs. Sharon Angle?

Mr. OConnel, you have a complete lack of understanding as to the inner workings of our complex society and government. First off I'm sure you are a loyal follower of Fox news and believe everything you hear from this hard right network, so I don't know that you would have heard that O'Donnell has a criminal complaint being filed against her by CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) because she has been using campaign funds for living expenses. To put it in a way you would better understand she's been using donated money to pay her rent, which I think everyone can agree is very similar to robbing a bank. In 2009, she used over 20,000 dollars for this purpose alone, now does someone who embezzles money someone you want to have in Senate?
The tea-party views are not compatible with our present day society. Clearly when there is less regulation on businesses our economy falters. Our situation with the economy right now is the result of Bush's deregulation. I'm sure you forget the facts about when the stimulus packages were sent out and when the country had it's economic turn for the worst, so let me remind you….It was under the Bush administration! I know its crazy to believe that a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant man could do anything wrong and that its easier to blame the half-black Harvard educated man with the Kenyan name, but you must realize that facts don't conform to racism. The same situation happened in the early '90's after your hero Ronald Regan dissolved regulation, there was a big boom during his administration and then a hard crash. Maybe you should look at history before you decide that less regulation will help our situation. The problem is that the stimulus package was not big enough.
Also here something else for you to think on, tea-partiers are anti-big government and in many cases anti-college education, however those are the two fields have the most employees, so by decreasing those sectors you will be putting millions of people out of work. That sounds really good for our country doesn't it?

Gee rachel, you gave me so much meat, I don't know where to start,so let me take it point by point.
      1) I have a complete lack of understanding of our "complex society and government work." That is a typical liberal/statist/progressive attack of making a charge without backing it up with any facts.
      2) A criminal complaint has been filed by CREW. I didn't know that, but since it was filed only about a week ago and it appeared that CREW was more interested in getting the charges in the media that they forgot to serve any papers on O'Donnell. According to the Washington Times, her attorney was going to visit the CREW website to see what the charges were. I went to the CREW site and did a search on the word Democrat. Not much turned up. Hmmm… fair and balanced? I found a list of the 22 most corrupt politicians in Washington and surprise! It had eighteen Republicans and only four Democrats. There was no mention of Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters; no mention of the 41 Obama White House aids who owe $831,000 in back taxes, so since this is just about a week old, I'll let it play out, but it smells fishy to me, particularly considering the timing.

      3) "The Tea Party views are not compatible with our present society." According to a Rasmussen poll, 46% say Tea Party is good for America, 31% disagree. Again, you bring no facts to the table.
      4) "Clearly when there is less regulation on business our economy falters." Again, no facts. The financial meltdown was triggered by the housing bubble which was the culmination of government program on top of government program going back to FDR (Fannie Mae). Where are your facts?
      5) "Our situation is the result of Bush's deregulation." Again, no facts. What did Bush deregulate that caused the financial meltdown?
      6) You are right about Bush starting the stimulus ball rolling with TARP. He was wrong. He was also not acting conservatively and he was helped, if you care to recall, by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
      7) Ah, the race card. What principled discusssion could we have without you bringing that up, because there is no where that I mentioned anyone's race. I'm colorblind on these issues. It sounds like you have a race problem.

      8) Reagan boom and then hard crash. Okay, take out your calendar and lets' review. Reagan took over a disastrous economy from Jimmy Carter. He turned it into the longest peace time expansion in history with, you are correct, deregulation, tax cuts, and spending reduction. He served from 1980 to 1988. He was succeeded by George H. W. Bush (1988-1992) during whose term there was a mild recession. In came Bill Clinton for a lackluster two years until the Republicans took over Congress and then we had balanced budgets and a continued boom due to tax cuts and spending reduction, both of which Clinton reluctantly went along. The dot.com bubble was on Clinton's watch. George W. Bush inherited a recession from Clinton. He cut taxes and the economy took off again. Then all the govenment programs that put people into mortgages they couldn't afford brought the collapse. Any questions? Reagan was no where in site in the early 90s. Unlike Clinton, Carter and Gore, he retired quietly to California.

      9) "The stimulus was not big enough" The simulus didn't do diddly-squat. The recession was over before the money hit the street. Obama promised unemploment which at that time was below 8% would not rise above 8% and threatened that if we did nothing it would climb to 9%. Well, he got his way and unemployment is worse than he said it would be if we did nothing, and we are $1 trillion deeper in debt, and you say that wasn't enough?
      10) Your answer is more government and higher education employment? Who's going to pay those salaries? They don't produce anything at a profit. We need private sector jobs. We just went through the housing bubble. Next up is the bubble in higher education, because the cost of tuition cannot continue to climb.
As far as putting millions of govenment workers out of work, I am reminded of a story about someone asking Pope John XXIII how many people worked in the vatican. He said, "about half."

      Thanks for commenting.

Sorry for the comments being out of order. I had to break them up to fit.
