Tim Bishop Compares Republicans to Riverboat Gamblers

by Bill O'Connell on May 31, 2011

Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a great oration with his “I Have a Dream” speech that moved millions of Americans to action. Howard Dean gave a puzzling oration with his “I Have a Scream” speech that moved millions of Americans to laughter and derision. Tim Bishop flops at oration with an “I Have a Scheme” remarks that will leave hundreds (he’d be hard pressed to reach millions), scratching their heads.

Gun Confiscation Movement (Part 3 of 3)

by Bill O'Connell on May 30, 2011

If you can’t take the guns away from the citizens, then tax the gun dealers out of existence. In New York, the state assembly just passed a law requiring that all semi-automatic weapons incorporate micro stamping. Micro stamping is a technique that will stamp the make, model, and serial number of a gun on a shell casing before ejecting it from the gun. The idea being that it would make it simpler for the police investigating a crime to find spent shell casings at the scene and voila, instant criminal identification. Only it doesn’t identify the criminal, but only the last legal owner of the gun, provided that information is in a registry (there’s that registry thing again).

Gun Confiscation Movement (Part 2 of 3)

California is going through what we might all face. The nebulous definition of assault weapons has been tweaked and changed and each time, it has been used as an excuse to confiscate more guns. Who is left unaffected by all of this? Criminals. They don’t care about the law. Our own government is actively working to make us less safe, taking our property, and then failing to defend us against these criminals, because in a free society, they can’t. They have to wait for the criminal to act and when the criminal acts, the police are rarely on the scene. They have to be called and in the mean time the victims own government has actively worked to disarm them and leave them helpless.

Jared Loughner Unfit to Stand Trial

Gabrielle Giffords’ shooter won’t be going to trial anytime soon. I have a question for Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Frank Lautenburg (D-NJ). In the wake of the Tucson shooting, what are you doing about getting mentally impaired people off the street, instead of rendering citizens defenseless?

As Chuck Schumer, Carolyn McCarthy, the New York State Assembly, and others continue to press for more laws on law abiding citizens while criminals and madmen have their way. I believe it is informative to review the results of this folly first in history and then specifcally in Australia.

The Democrats are banking on the American people returning to the days of voting by sound bite. They believe the Tea Party is an anomaly that will go down as a blip in the history books, rather than a force for educating the electorate on the issues. It is a strategy that has worked for them, even as recently as the 2010 election. In the First Congressional District of New York, Congressman Tim Bishop ran for reelection entirely on bashing his opponent, and not mentioning his record of voting with Nancy Pelosi 97% of the time.

2nd Amendment Can Do What Gun Laws Cannot

by Bill O'Connell on May 24, 2011

Some of the most widely reported stories, used by the gun control lobby, to further restrict the rights of Americans have a common theme. Jared Loughner in Tucson, Seung-Hui Cho at Virginia Tech, Colin Ferguson on the Long Island Railroad, and the incident described below in Texas have one thing in common. The perpetrators of these crimes were crazy.
