Scott Walker fended off a recall election and it did it handily. Don’t expect the main stream media dwell on this, but it is not good news for President Obama’s reelection chances.
The main stream media has written off the Tea Party as they have embraced the Occupy crowd, albeit less so as the ugliness of that movement manifests itself. But the Tea Party has been open about its evolution from a protest movement to a get out the vote movement. There are fewer Tea Party rallies, marches on Washington, but more activity on the ground winning elections in Indiana, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Utah, and Texas.
The American people are tiring of the boorish behavior of the left. The takeovers of government buildings, the violence, the mass arrests, are a stark contrast to the peaceful engagement of the Tea Party. Anyone could go to a Tea Party group and engage them in a debate if they chose to do so. You can’t do that at an occupy group, because most of the people there don’t know why they are there. They are pawns assembled by the unions or other organizers, told to show up at a certain place and time, hold some signs, chant some slogans, shout down anyone who disagrees with them, and then pick up their check from the organizers.
Union membership is collapsing in Wisconsin since withholding union dues is now opt-in. People are looking at the amount of union dues taken out of their paycheck and are beginning to question it. They are seeing how their money is being spent, not on collective bargaining, but on getting Democrats elected whether or not they personally support Democrats. They see that they can better spend that money elsewhere. This could be the death knell of public sector unions. No more collusion of unions electing Democrats and then Democrats negotiating union contracts that are little more than payback time.
This is not good news for Obama. Governor Walker’s policies are working in Wisconsin. A $1.3 billion budget deficit has been closed without raising taxes. Unemployment has fallen and jobs are growing. Obama’s policies are the exact opposite and they are failing. Budget deficits have soared, unemployment has climbed and Obama stands to be the only president since Herbert Hoover who has negative job growth during his term.
With the victory in Wisconsin, I would like to pay tribute to one of our fiercest warriors. He showed us the way. This one’s for you, Andrew.
