Rather than do their job, Congress and the President designated a super committee to do it for them. The committee failed miserably. But what exactly were they shooting for?

President Obama laid out his jobs plan and its more of the same. Tax more. Spend more. Calling more taxes, savings and more spending, investment. Is this president incapable of learning from his mistakes or is he going “all in” for a class warfare strategy to get reelected?

Alexander Graham Bell dies. By year-end it takes 7,000 German marks to equal one U.S. dollar. It was also the last time the 9th Congressional District in New York was held by a Republican.

Today in New York City, the bastion of blue, in the bluest of states there is an upset in the making. Republican Bob Turner is leading Democrat David Weprin for the Congressional seat vacated by the disgraced Anthony Weiner, a protegé of Senator Chuck Schumer.

Congressional members high tailed it out of Washington after passing a debt limit agreement, but Democrats Steve Israel and Tim Bishop wasted no time in holding a press conference at MacArthur airport on Long Island to blame Republicans for a crisis they created.

A contentious battle has concluded today with the passage of the debt limit deal. It was a hard fought battle where no one is entirely happy with the outcome. Before we leave this field of battle, we should take stock of the accomplishments and the players involved.
As Chuck Schumer, Carolyn McCarthy, the New York State Assembly, and others continue to press for more laws on law abiding citizens while criminals and madmen have their way. I believe it is informative to review the results of this folly first in history and then specifcally in Australia.
Some of the most widely reported stories, used by the gun control lobby, to further restrict the rights of Americans have a common theme. Jared Loughner in Tucson, Seung-Hui Cho at Virginia Tech, Colin Ferguson on the Long Island Railroad, and the incident described below in Texas have one thing in common. The perpetrators of these crimes were crazy.
Have we tired sufficiently of the ruling class on Mount Olympus, er, Capitol Hill? Instead of citizen legislators who go to Washington as a public service, they go to wrap themselves in power and dictate to the rest of us what is good for us, but that we are too dim to know better. Their key objective every two, four, or six years is to get reelected so that they don’t have to return to dwell among the unwashed mortals. Had enough?
It cries out for an intervention. It is almost like a 1950s horror movie where the victim/villain begs for help to stop him before he runs amok and kills again. With a monstrous $14 trillion in debt and Democrats and Republicans about to do battle to increase that amount even more, newly elected Republican governor Rick Scott of Florida turns down white elephant spending on high speed rail, $2 billion worth. But instead of agreeing that Governor Scott’s decision was a prudent one in today’s times, Democrats Chuck Schumer and Frank Lautenberg waddle up to the trough, snorting in glee as they bury their faces in the slop and with the excess dripping off their chins, look into the camera and say, bad for Florida, goooooood for New York and New Jersey.
