In a recent interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman, once again, laid down the charge that has no proof, that the Tea Party is racist. I like Morgan Freeman. I think he is a great actor. But with this display, I also think that he needs to get out of the Hollywood bubble that includes such deep thinkers as Michael Moore and Janeane Garofolo, and actually visit a Tea Party gathering, (they are very safe places to go to). Here is his thinking. The Tea Party is opposed to Barack Obama, therefore the Tea Party is racist. Game. Set. Match. Gee, that was easy. Does Morgan Freeman know who Herman Cain is? How does he explain that one?

Social Security: Show Us the Money
by Bill O'Connell on August 31, 2010
President Obama wants to have it both ways. He wants to appear to be fiscally responsible and he knows that to do so, that something has to include Social Security. However, to try to keep as many Democrats in office that he can he has to play that other favorite card of the Democrats, that Republicans want to push grandma in her wheelchair down the stairs by privatizing Social Security.
In a campaign stop in Racine, Wisconsin the president had this to say, “”I’ll fight with everything I’ve got to stop those who would gamble your Social Security on Wall Street. Because you shouldn’t be worried that a sudden downturn in the stock market will put all you’ve worked so hard for—all you’ve earned—at risk.” Oh, really, Mr. President? Then perhaps you can show us where all the Social Security money is that you don’t want to put at risk. The problem is that the government spent it all. That’s right, there’s no lock box, no account, no bank vault, no hole in the ground were the money is buried, earning nothing. I only wish I was able to put “at risk” all the money that the government took out of my paycheck along with my employer’s contributions.
Based on my last annual statement from the Social Security administration, the government collected about $170,000 from me and my employers on my behalf. Had I the opportunity to put that “at risk” in the stock market, the Dow Jones 30 industrials to be precise, including all the ups and downs, that $170,000 would be worth about $800,000 today. Thank you Democrats for keeping me safe from accumulating that amount of wealth and instead “investing” it in ethanol, turtle crossings in Florida, bridges to nowhere, airports in John Murtha’s district that no one flies to, etc. By Social Security estimates, that money they took from me and my employers, will be paid back to me and run out about ten to twelve years before I expire. So instead of having a real nest egg that I can live off of and pass the rest on to my heirs, my getting Social Security will depend on the next generation getting taxed to the eyeballs to pay me and they can hope the next generation does not rise up in arms when they get the bill.
Everyone who supports the Social Security system as it is today, acknowledging that we have to fulfill our commitment to those who have retired or are very near to retiring, should join Bernie Madoff in cell block C, for the Ponzi scheme the government created. President Obama, it is time to stop lying to the American people. We don’t want government to run our lives. You have crammed your left wing agenda down our throats and we will give you our rebuttal on November 3. Then your one term will be up two years hence.
Obama and Health Care Explained
by Bill O'Connell on April 3, 2010
In an article titled, “An Article of Faith,” Charles M. Blow of the New York Times explains about Obama and Health Care. I am glad he took the time to set down the statist’s case. It much easier to expose them when they step into the sunlight.
“The Apostles of Anger {that’s us} in their echo chamber of fallacies have branded him the enemy. This has now become an article of faith. Obama isn’t just the enemy of small government and national solvency. He’s the enemy of liberty.”
Enemy, noun, persons that are hostile to one another.
Sounds like Mr. Blow is onto something there. Let’s see poll after poll has the American people opposed to ObamaCare by around 55% to 60%. President Obama shows his hostility to the American people by saying he doesn’t care what they think, he, President Obama, knows what’s best for them and will ram this thing through by gimmicks such as reconciliation rather than the normal approval process. Yes, I guess that makes him an enemy, but it was accomplished through his own actions, not by talk radio or Fox News.
Liberty, noun, freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control.
Again, it looks like Mr. Blow nails it. We have the government under ObamaCare telling us we have to buy insurance or pay a tax or go to jail for non-payment of taxes. Sounds pretty arbitrary and despotic to me. So President Obama has decided to act in a way that makes us his enemy. I guess Mr. Blow is trying to say we are to be faulted for recognizing it?
“This underscores the current fight for the soul of this country. It’s not just a tug of war between left and right. It’s a struggle between the mind and the heart, between evidence and emotions, between reason and anger, between what we know and what we believe.”
Uh-oh, here it comes folks the statist is about to point out how stupid we are for not going along like sheep to slaughter. Notice the word order first it’s left then right. If you follow that order Mr. Blow is trying to say that the left stands for the mind, the evidence, reason and what we know, while the right stands for heart, emotions, anger, and beliefs. I am sure Mr. Blow will now use his superior intellect to explain this all to us knuckle dragging troglodytes.
“This conflict was captured in a tit-for-tat between Obama and Rush Limbaugh. In an interview with CBS this week, Obama complained about the “vitriol” coming from the likes of Limbaugh: ‘I think the vast majority of Americans know that we’re trying hard, that I want what’s best for the country.’
“Limbaugh shot back on Friday, “I and most Americans do not believe President Obama is trying to do what’s best for the country.”
That’s pretty weak. So despite 55% to 60% of the American people, for months on end, saying or should I say screaming NO! this is not what we want, Mr. Obama is saying as if to a small child, “There, there now, take your medicine, I know what’s best for you.” Where Mr. Limbaugh is humble enough not to claim god-like omniscience that he knows what people think, just that based on his observations of the polls, what he believes they think. It sounds like Mr. Blow is making a case for Mr. Obama being the most arrogant president in our history. Please continue.
“And there it was. Obama’s language focused on what people “know,” or should know. He seems to find comfort in the empirical nature of knowledge. It’s logical. Limbaugh’s language focused on what he thinks people “believe.” Beliefs are a more complicated blend of facts, or lies, and faith. And, they can exist beyond the realm of the rational.”
Really? Is Mr. Blow serious? Does he believe this or does he know this? Of what knowledge are you speaking Mr. Blow, in which President Obama takes warm comfort? Is it the empirical knowledge that estimates of what Medicare would cost when it was passed turned out to be understated by 700%? Is it the empirical knowledge that the model for ObamaCare up in Massachusetts has not stopped costs from increasing and health care is being rationed? Of course, when Mr. Blow speaks of the right and their beliefs he has to work “lies” into the formula of the “complicated blend of facts, lies and faith.”
“According to another Quinnipiac poll released last week, Republicans were far more likely than Democrats to say that they follow public affairs most of the time. But how? They listen to people like Limbaugh, and they’re more likely than others to watch Fox News.”
Let me call your Quinnipiac poll and raise you one. In its daily poll on the president Rasmussen finds that while 53% of likely voters disapprove of the job President Obama is doing, 55% of the media write favorable articles about him and that is on a downward trend! So if people want the truth, who should they turn to for their news, the New York Times perhaps? I think your article just answered that question.
“But invectives are not information. For example, a poll released on Wednesday by the Pew Research Center found that most Republicans say that they still don’t understand how the new health care reform will affect them and their family.”
Republicans still don’t understand??? Nobody understands it, Mr. Blow, because nobody read it before it passed Congress. At over 2,500 pages, if you did nothing else but read the bill in the seventy two hours it was posted in the internet, it is not likely you could have read it. No sleeping, no eating, no lavatory breaks, just three straight days of reading it and you would be hard pressed to get all the way through. Since you are such a fan of empirical evidence, when major companies announced billions in write-offs because of the bill and the legal requirement to so report, Congressman Henry Waxman appeared shocked and called for hearings. When Congressman Anthony Weiner said the IRS would not be checking on whether or not you had health insurance, he couldn’t explain why the law funds 16,000 more IRS agents. This circus is only starting my friend.
And so, my fellow imbeciles, Mr. Blow has spoken with a scathingly inept defense of all things Obama, making the case for a strong turnout at the Tea Parties on April 15 at the very same time. If you want to know the news watch Fox, if you believe you want to house train your dog, get the New York Times.
Experience Matters – December 2009 Update
by Bill O'Connell on December 29, 2009
For the second time in two months there has been a terrorist attack or an attempted attack on U.S. soil. How is this administration responding? Well, if grandma is planning to visit the family for the next holiday and she has a bladder problem, she had better drive or take the train, because she won’t be allowed to use the bathroom during the last hour of an airplane flight. Whew! That was close. I feel so much better now that we kept grandma from flying. Don’t you feel safer?
Who’s Minding the Store?
As pointed out in several other posts, Barack Obama was elected with zero executive experience and we hold our breath as he stumbles about trying to learn what an executive is supposed to do. He put Janet Napolitano in charge of the Homeland Security department, because her home state borders on Mexico, but without any security experience. This was put on full display when she went on the Sunday talk shows to say the administration response to the terrorist bomber went very well and then goes on the Monday morning news shows to say they failed. President Obama put Leon Panetta in charge of the CIA even though he has no intelligence experience. Feeling a little uncomfortable?
Planning to Fail
President Obama has taken just about every step he can to dismantle what Bush and Cheney put in place and to discredit how they kept us safe. Even today, Obama insiders were whispering to the Washington Post that this was all Bush’s fault. Let’s look at the Obama record:
- Closing Guantanamo — this is one of Obama’s top priorities. Rather than keep these enemy combatants off shore and in military hands, as any battlefield captives should be held, he is planning to release Yemenis back to Yemen. Where did the bomber obtain instructions? That’s right Yemen.
- Curtail Interrogation techniques — calling a technique that has no lasting physical effects on prisoner torture, and requiring that prisoners be asked only name, rank and serial number, this administration cuts off sources of valuable information that can save lives.
- Calling the War on Terror, the Overseas Contingency Operation and changing us from a war footing to a law and order footing.
- Letting the bomber lawyer up — instead of treating the bomber as a foot soldier in the War on Terror he is treated like some delinquent trying to knock over a Seven Eleven. We should be putting him under intense interrogation to find out everything we can from him on the operation behind him. Instead we are reading him Miranda rights, getting him a lawyer, putting him in one of the best burn center hospitals in the country, and planning to give him skin grafts. I guess he’s part of the new health care plan.
Correctness or Political Correctness
Profiling works. When are we going to stop ignoring this simple fact? Look at any one of the known terrorist attacks around the world. When someone gets on line at an airport who fits the profile of a young, male, single, Middle Eastern, African or South Asian, then pull them out of the line and give them a more thorough screening. Pat them down. Swab every bag for explosive residue rather than a sampling, open and examine closely everything. Don’t say we can’t check this one because we have already checked two others and until we check our quota of old men, white grandmas, Asian children, etc. we cannot check another Middle Eastern man because we may hurt their feelings.
If enough of them get their feelings hurt, maybe all the other fair minded and peace loving Muslims around the world will rise up and take back their faith from those who have hijacked it for their own murderous aims. Until then, we should err on the side of caution and pray that this administration figures out what they are doing to protect us. If they don’t know what to do they should leave what Bush and Cheney did well enough alone. It kept us safe for seven years.
The End of Racism?
by Bill O'Connell on November 8, 2008
Throughout the presidential campaign there was an undercurrent of racism. It bubbled up every time it looked like an issue could be effectively used against Barack Obama. Talk about William Ayers? You’re a racist. Talk about Revered Wright? You’re a racist. Talk about ACORN? Your a racist. Say you are not going to vote for Obama, then that proves you’re a racist.
What’s interesting is that the only people who talked about race and racism were the Democrats. It was as if knowing that racism was receding to the darkest corners of society and withering and dying as it went, they had to resuscitate it and keep it alive. One of the most powerful tools in their arsenal was looking about as potent as Jack La Lanne, at 94.
The Election Results
Barack Obama won the election for President of the United States with 53% of the popular vote. That is a higher percentage than Bill Clinton got in either of his elections, while he had the hubris to call himself the first black president. It was a higher percentage than Jimmy Carter got in 1976, the last Democratic presidential winner to garner more than 50% of the popular vote, with 50.1%. You have to go back 44 years to Lyndon Johnson to find a Democrat that got a higher percentage of the popular vote.
Barack Obama and John McCain didn’t submit job applications to a committee, where Barack Obama might get a few extra points for being a minority. He won in the popular vote and even more decisively in the Electoral College. He even won three states from the old Confederacy (Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida). I think it’s fair to say that race wasn’t a significant factor. He could not have won the race on the black vote alone and regardless of how other categories broke down, the fact remains he had to get substantial support from all groups in order for him to be close enough for the black vote to put him over the top.
Progress Has Been Ongoing
If you look around it was not just this one man who has succeeded, there are also many others: Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Oprah Winfrey, Charles Rangel, Clarence Thomas, Douglas Wilder, Lynn Swan, J.C. Watts, Michael Steele, Kenneth Chennault, Reginald Davis, Tiger Woods, and on, and on. So perhaps we can put the deck of race cards in the drawer and leave them there.
The Next Chapter
How Barack Obama plans to lead would typically be revealed in his inaugural address. I would like to offer some text that he might consider including to set the tone for bringing the nation together:
“As I look out on this crowd of great Americans I can see in the distance the Lincoln Memorial. It was there some forty-five years ago, another great American, Martin Luther King, Jr., addressed a large crowd. In that speech he said,
‘I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’
As I stand here before you, I am humbled to think how momentous those words were then, and how great this country has become in the intervening forty-five years. He also said:
‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’
I was a little child when he said those words and I consider myself as much one of his children as his own flesh and blood. So I say to you on this day, that we are about to write a new chapter, the fulfillment of that dream. I pledged to bring change, to bring you hope, and to end partisanship and unite this country. Therefore, I proclaim that we should end all Affirmative Action programs, and we should end them with two words:
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Including that message in his inaugural address would be on par with Kennedy’s “Ask Not….” It would set him apart from the dull technocrats and bureaucrats and define his presidency. Anyone want to wager if that will ever happen?
